The Atlanta police homeland security unit is investigating the origin of a “suspicious” letter sent to Morningside Elementary School Tuesday that makes reference to a terrorist organization, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“The letter was addressed to the school, referenced a known terrorist organization, and included a drawing made with a permanent marker,” the school’s principal, Rebecca Pruitt, notified student families in a letter Wednesday. Neither she nor police provided further details of the contents.

Atlanta police said Thursday that “no information has been uncovered that would indicate a confirmed threat against the school.”

Police also said that investigators “have not ruled out” the possibility that the letter is part of a hoax.

Pruitt told parents that emergency protocols were followed and that “no one was ever in any danger.”

She said that no disruptions in the school day were expected while the investigation proceeded, but that campus security would be increased.

Police said they are providing extra patrols around the school.
