PHOTOS: Wearing pearls on Jan. 20 for VP Kamala Harris
On Jan. 20 Sen. Kamala Harris will be sworn in as vice president of the United States, becoming the first woman of color to hold that office. There has been a call for women to wear pearls on that day in honor of Harris, but also to empower and support women.

Like Madame VP Kamala Harris and Stacey Abrams, I am an HBCU graduate; specifically of Spelman College (class of )2018. It has always been known to wear your pearls on significant occasions, especially when we are dressed up. Since Kamala is making history, January 20 is not just a significant moment for her, it is a moment for all Black women across the nation. When Black Women wear their pearls, know that they have arrived to get the job done at all costs and will make choices to change the world for the better. “
