An Atlanta man was killed early Wednesday morning when he was hit in the middle of I-75 in Marietta.

The deadly crash shut down the northbound lanes of I-75 near the North Marietta Parkway loop for more than three hours, clearing just before the start of the morning commute.

Marietta police do not know why 26-year-old Joshua Edwards was walking in the interstate near Allgood Road before he was struck by a northbound Freightliner about 1:15 a.m., according to a department spokesman. Edwards was dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 53-year-old Cartersville woman, has not been charged in his death, police said. Authorities cleared the scene and the lanes reopened about 4:30 a.m.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Marietta traffic investigator St. Onge at 770-794-5352.
