Praise for man who
gives music a home
Kudos to the AJC for bringing us two great feature columns Oct. 21: “Sunday Conversation With” (Metro) and “Personal Journeys” (Living). Articles that highlight Atlanta’s interesting and diverse personalities help demonstrate the unique culture of our town, and make us all richer as we learn about that culture.
For years, Eddie Owen provided us with a unique local hang-out — a place to give opportunity to both the multitudes of aspiring musicians and listening audiences. My son, who is now performing in Nashville, was one of those musicians who squeezed himself onto Mr. Owen’s stage.
I am truly excited about his move to bring live local music to Duluth at the Red Clay Theatre. For a musician and for an audience, there is nothing more enjoyable than live music. Music stirs the soul. This will be a great venue, and I hope he finds the way to build a tavern beside the theatre. This will be a great Duluth destination for all of metro Atlanta.
Thank you, Ms. Hardie, for this “Sunday Conversation With” and an informative and upbeat article about someone who is making contemporary live music accessible to us all.

Romney’s promises
invite more scrutiny
Governor Romney has promised millions of new jobs if elected — but how exactly will he deliver that? Will he force his CEO friends to cut profits and bring outsourced manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. ? They wouldn’t like that.
Will he order China to “shape up” and stop currency manipulation and other abuses? I didn’t know debtors could “order” their creditors to do anything. Will he send undocumented workers home and free up millions of busboy, dishwashing and onion-picking jobs?

Obama’s taking credit
that’s not his to take
President Obama seems to be stressing his role in “saving the auto industry” a bit too much. He is now claiming that if Mitt Romney had been president, we might not have an auto industry now.
I’m sure that would come as a shock to the folks in South Carolina who make BMWs; to the folks in Alabama who make the Mercedes-Benz; to the folks at plants in Ohio and California, and last, but not least, all the folks happily producing Ford products in plants across the country.
Really — is this the best he has to offer?

BENGHAZI ATTACK
In truth, nobody leads
troops from the front
Regarding “Truth is a casualty to White House spin” (Readers write, Opinion, Oct. 23), this letter was beyond the pale.
I don’t know what military this letter writer was in, but in both the Air Force and Navy, I never encountered a leader who led from the front. And if this writer paid any attention to events, he would understand the Obama administration’s comments were correct from the start. Intelligence reports kept changing, and to a minor degree, the administration made changes to the story as it knew it.
I would ask the writer of this letter if he can name any president since Washington that ever led troops from the front (instead of behind) — and that includes President Eisenhower.
