GOVERNMENT WASTE
Latest jobs scandal
just tip of iceberg
Thank you for your investigation into the federal job-training funds being squandered (“Decades of scandal can’t stop jobs agency,” News, May 5). Our country needs good investigative journalism. How else would the light be put onto government corruption and waste?
There seemed to be no effort to recoup some of the waste. Why not? The really sad part is that this corruption and waste is just the tip of the iceberg of waste and corruption in all government programs. Couple this with the overhead to implement these programs, and you really have a waste of taxpayers’ hard-earned money. It will only get worse with the ethic and moral fabric of our country breaking apart. Yet we keep getting more of these programs out of Washington.

Voter restrictions
just cause hardship
We are aware of many state governments that have imposed new voting restrictions purportedly to avoid voter fraud. However, there is no significant evidence of illegal or false voting. It cannot be disputed these are unnecessary impositions that add cost and inconvenience to the electoral process. Many courts have rejected them. Which is the political group ranting and raving against government interference and regulation? It is the party that has imposed those restrictions. They object to other regulations and controls that benefit the segments of the populace who are affected by their election strictures.

COMMENTARY
Benghazi cartoon
disregards scandal
The Mike Lukovich cartoon implying that the Benghazi debacle is a war cry by conservatives, due to a lack of actual Obama scandals, is ludicrous in its intent and laughable in its insipidness. Regardless of the overwhelming data supporting a total lack of action on the part of the current administration, as well as a palpable cover-up of the consequences of this inaction, the idea that there is not a plethora of real scandals surrounding this White House indicates either an avoidance of the facts or a refusal to at least consider that something went terribly wrong.

Why set graduation
in a distant church?
How is it possible for the Lakeside High School graduation be held at a church? Moving the affair to a church is bad enough, but to move it almost 20 miles away is ridiculous. What is the meaning and purpose? Who is behind such shenanigans? We had planned to attend the graduation (of) one of our family at or very near to the school, and now this. Shame!
