There’s no excuse for TSA rudeness

Guest columnist Mark Bauerlein was on point when it comes to TSA attitudes (“TSA agents and bad attitudes,” Opinion, June 23). Recently, my husband and I were in the security line at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. There was one agent for the initial check. She signed off on our boarding pass and told us we would not have to remove our shoes (both of us are over 70).

When we got to the screener, he asked if I was 75. I told him, “No” (I’m 71). And he told me to remove my shoes. I showed him my pass, and he said curtly, “Remove your shoes.” I asked him to check with the initial screener and he said the same thing again. After finally getting through the check, I asked for a manager to suggest that he get his subordinates on the same page. He was as rude as the other agents. The TSA wonders why travelers have such negative feelings for TSA agents. Give a person a badge, and it goes to their heads.

Gov. Haley shows right stuff on flag

Republican presidential candidate after Republican presidential candidate showed a lack of courage and leadership by refusing to take a stand on removing the Confederate flag from the South Carolina Capitol. Thank goodness Gov. Nikki Haley had the courage to stand up for what is right (“Bipartisan push: The flag has to go,” News, June 23). Maybe she will join the already crowded Republican field. She has already shown herself to be a better leader than all the other candidates.

Cartoonist wrongly depicts papal stand

Regarding the Michael Ramirez cartoon once again portraying Pope Francis as a global warming doomsday conspiracy theorist (Opinion, June 23), I need to ask again why the AJC continues to allow Ramirez’s cartoon to run. The pontiff is not trying to attack those who don’t believe in global warming. Rather, he is insisting that we humans come together to prevent environmental degradation — not to let the world and nature work us, but to ensure that we can keep working the world for as many generations as possible, just as God told us to do in the Bible.

As usual, however, Ramirez cannot learn to just not say anything about the Pope and make fun of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, the Democrat Party or others who are actually known liberals.
