The state's new school climate reports attempt to tell parents how safe their schools are. But do they?

Among the concerns in the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal was the false impression of academic success given to students. In view of the thousands of college freshmen who require remedial courses, a professor says that same false impression charge can be levied against many U.S. high schools. In my column, I discuss the state’s new school climate ratings and whether they provided useful or convoluted information for parents. And readers share their views on the new law signed last week by Gov. Nathan Deal freeing 9,000 former high school students from the mandate they pass a graduation test before earning their diplomas.
