PENDERGRASS, Jere Wayne

Paassed away peacefully on Saturday, October 23 in Atlanta, Ga. He is survived by his wife, Marla Adams; children Scott (Caitlin) Pendergrass and Mona Adams (fiancé Chris Blankenship); brothers Tommy, Jack (Julia), Jon, Jeff (Kay) and their families; and countless friends all around the country. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Pearl Pendergrass, and niece Sara Pendergrass.

Jere was born and grew up in Lawrenceville, Georgia before serving as an MP in Vietnam. He came home and became a City of Atlanta Police Officer/ Detective for 26 years, truly driven to protect and serve. He would help anyone at any time, asking for nothing in return except a story to add to his collection. He appreciated good people and good bourbon. His group of friends was diverse, fascinating him with not only their similarities but differences as well. Jere demanded that Scott and Mona stand up and be strong, but spoiled them completely as any loving father would.

You would often hear him say: "Never let a lie get in the way of a good story." "I've been surrounded by lightweights all my life." "When everyone else is running away, we run in." Godspeed JP.

In lieu of flowers, make a toast to him the next time you enjoy a drink with your family and friends.
