MCWHORTER (HART), Jane
Jane Hart McWhorter, wife of the late Burnett Pettigrew McWhorter, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the age of 91 after a brief illness.
Born in Atlanta, GA in 1930, Mrs. McWhorter was the daughter of the late W. Glenn Hart and Clytie Chandler Hart. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jaimin G. McWhorter and two sisters, Jeanine Hart and Mary Jo Hart. She was a graduate of Agnes Scott and received her Master of Arts from Middlebury Bread Loaf School of English, Vermont. She married Burnett Pettigrew McWhorter (Mac) and they later moved to Athens GA in 1963. They had four children: Bruce, Kristin, Jaimin and Brett. They eventually found her dream land and later moved to Watkinsville, GA. She spent her entire career teaching English and Literature at the University of Georgia. She was kind, loving and generous to a fault.
She is survived by her children Bruce B. McWhorter, Kristin K. McWhorter and Brett K. McWhorter and daughter-in-law Laurie McWhorter, her sister Ann Savage of Green Mountain NC and four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
