DAY, James Bryan "Jim"

July 1, 1958 – December 23, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of James Bryan Day, fondly known as "Jim", 62, of Norcross, GA, announce his passing. Jim passed away at his home in Norcross, on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020.

Jim was born July 1, 1958, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama and was the 2nd child of William Day and Betty Jean (McKinney) Day. He was raised with his sister, Brenda at their home in Montgomery until their family moved to Atlanta, Ga in 1964. Jim attended Oakcliff Elementary and graduated from Peachtree High School in 1976, where he was active in football, baseball and wrestling. After High School Jim worked for a HVAC company, until he fell through a ceiling and decided that wasn't the job for him. His goal was to find a job that offered a company car, thus begun his commercial janitorial career. Through perseverance and dedication to hard work, Jim worked his way up in a number of major janitorial companies throughout the southeast United States. He became a successful businessman and was involved in numerous business ventures. He went on to achieve his entrepreneurial goal; owned and founded a janitorial service company, Distinguished Properties Cleaning, USA. He will be missed greatly by the people at DPC, whom he considered extended family.

In 1980 while competing in a charity softball tournament, Jim met the love of his life, Judy Davis Day of Dacula, GA, and they were married in early 1982. When a better job opportunity arose, they moved to Albany, GA, where they welcomed their first child, Jessica Leigh Day, to their family. A few years later, Jim's job transferred him to Tampa, Fl, where he and Jessica bonded during their frequent fishing excursions, which typically included their trusty Labrador, Winston.

Jim's growth in the industry lead him from Florida to North Carolina and back to Atlanta. Jessica became a big sister to brother, Johnathan, in 1986. Jim enjoyed family trips including camping, boating, fishing, and loved cooking the day's catch over the campfire.

Jim was a firm believer in the goodness of people. He will always be remembered for his generosity, big heart, and commitment to family. Over his career, he was involved in many community clubs and charitable organizations. He had a special love for Angel Flight Soars, where he served as President and was instrumental in building the growth of supporters especially for the golf tournament which was always a huge fundraising success. He was also served and was very active on the board of The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and Atlanta Crohn's Colitis Foundation. He also supported "Just" People, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a variety of support services to adults with developmental disabilities. In addition, he served as president of his condominium association in Florida, and will be greatly missed by its members.

Everyone who knew Jim will miss his larger-than-life personality. He brightened any room he entered with his smile, charm, and great sense of humor. He loved all sports, especially Alabama football! He was an avid golfer and played in many charity tournaments. Jim touched everyone's hearts and lives and left a mark on everyone he met.

Jim is survived by his daughter - Jessica Day, son -Johnathan Day, father- Bill Day, sister -Brenda Day Mayton and her husband Dave Mayton, nephew – Mitchell Mayton, nieces, Taylor Hitt and Ali Barfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Day, and mother, Betty Day.
