A North Georgia teacher recently died from the coronavirus less than a month after her husband lost his battle with the disease, leaving a 12-year-old boy without his parents.

Heidi Hammond, a first-grade teacher at Chatsworth Elementary, died last Friday, 25 days after Sean Hammond passed away Aug. 30, according to reports.

Heidi Hammond’s funeral was Monday. In lieu of flowers, family and friends requested that donations be made to the college fund for the couple’s son, Marshall, at First National Community Bank in Chatsworth, WLOS reported.

Sean Hammond used to teach and coach football in Murray County, WLOS reported. Marshall is a sixth grader at Hammond Creek Middle School, according to WLOS, and his dad was supposed to be one of his football coaches this season.

Misty Silvers, a family friend, told WLOS that football brought the family together.

“The whole family bonded over football,” Silvers told the ABC affiliate. “Marshall was just big into football, and he’s a phenomenal football player.”
