After a Spalding County woman died from a gunshot wound Thursday evening, police charged her boyfriend with murder.
Carlesha Wells, 25, of Griffin, was found with a gunshot wound at a home in Newnan, police said in a news release. She had been shot in the chest and was unresponsive at the scene. Wells was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, according to Newnan police.
Marcus Strozier Jr., of Newnan, was identified as Wells’ boyfriend by police and charged with murder, though he was not on the scene when officers arrived. He turned himself in hours later.
According to the initial investigation, police believe Wells and Strozier were involved in a fight at the scene, an apartment on Neal Street. At some point during the struggle, a round was fired, hitting Wells in the chest, police said.
Anyone with more information on the case is asked to contact the Newnan Police Department at 770-254-2355.
