Young cancer patient dresses as Wonder Woman, gets love from hero

Three-year-old Sophia Sandoval's last day of chemotherapy was cause for celebration. Diagnosed with medulloblsatoma in May, her parents helped her get through her treatments by telling her the therapy was giving her something special in return for the pain.

"When she was taking the medicine, we would tell her she was going to get 'Superwoman' or 'Wonder Woman' powers," Sophia's mother, Rossio Sandoval, told ABC News.

So, when that last day of chemo finally came this week, Sandoval had the perfect way to kiss chemo goodbye. Dressed in a full "Wonder Woman" costume, she posed on top of her hospital bed with a sign reading, "My last day of chemo. It was tough, but I am tougher."

The Jessie Rees Foundation posted the photo on its Facebook page, and it quickly went viral. It didn't take long for the original "Wonder Woman" herself to take notice.

Lynda Carter, the actress who played the hero in the 1970s show, soon praised the little girl, calling her a real-life "Wonder Woman."

“We felt so happy and so special because we didn’t really expect that,” Sophia’s mother told ABC News. “It is so awesome because I know a lot of people who see this will see that my daughter is kicking cancer, and maybe it will help others.”
