An 11-year-old boy is getting praise for helping save his younger brother's life.

Xavier Lara and his 4-year-old brother Marquis were away from home when the younger boy ate a cracker and had an allergic reaction to it.

Xavier recognized what was happening and ran home to get Marquis' EpiPen.

"It's just one of those rare moments that you get as a parent when you realize you're doing something right," the boys' mother Rosa Lara said.

The reaction could have been deadly if Xavier didn't jump into action.

"Allergic reactions can progress very quickly, and once you get behind the eight ball, it's hard to stabilize the patient, so there is no question in my mind that this definitely made a difference, and it's quite possibly that this could have saved his brother's life," Susan Schiller from Boston EMS said.

Xavier's mom told WFXT she couldn't have been more proud of her son.

"I'm just so thankful that he was able to just think quickly and without fear, he was just so fearless," she said.
