An astonished Connecticut driver quickly called authorities Wednesday morning when she saw a stunning sight on her drive into work: a 2-year-old child teetering precariously around on a rooftop in Ansonia.
"I was driving to work on Main Street in Ansonia, and there's a baby on top of a roof," the worried woman told a 911 operator, according to a transcript of the call, WTNH-TV reported.
The dispatcher thought the driver meant the child was on a car roof.
“Where’s the car with the baby on it?” he asked.
“No, there’s no car. It’s on the roof of a house,” the woman said.
When police arrived at the home, an officer managed to keep the toddler calm and still on the rooftop until he was rescued, according to WTNH.
Inside the home, investigators discovered that the child's father and an aunt were sleeping, and the house was in such neglected condition, it was condemned a short time later, the news station reported.
David Hustek, 23, and Sarah Barker, 20, were taken into custody and are facing charges of risk of injury to a minor and reckless endangerment.
They’re each jailed on a $10,000 bond.
