A 2-year-old Florida boy was pronounced dead after being found unconscious in a car Friday afternoon, Fort Pierce police report.

Police say that Kenny Hyppolite was rushed to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center with an elevated body temperature after the child's family discovered him alone in a car.

It was not immediately clear how the boy got into the car.

City police officers were called shortly after 5 p.m. to a home in the 300 block of North 11th Street. Family members told officers they were looking for the child, who had last been seen about 2 1/2 hours earlier.

They found the child in a family car, unconscious and not breathing, police spokesman Ed Cunningham said.

Detectives are still investigating and the cause of death is yet to be determined, he said.
