As the world woke up to the news that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was President-elect Trump, world leaders or their surrogates started to respond to the upset.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the world's political outlook is "very uncertain," NBC News reported.
"Germany and America are connected by values: democracy, freedom, respect for the law and for the dignity of human beings, independently of origin, skin color, religion, gender, sexual orientation or political views. On the basis of these values, I am offering the future president of the United States of America, Donald Trump, close cooperation."
"We're realizing now that we have no idea what this American president will do if the voice of anger enters office and the voice of anger becomes the most powerful man in the world," Norbert Roettgen said.
Roettgen is a member of Merkel's party, the Christian Democratic Union, and is the head of the parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee.
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Trump saying:
"Russia is ready and wants to restore full-format relations with the United States. Let me repeat. We proceed from the fact that this will be an uneasy way but we're ready both to cover our part of the distance and do everything to return the Russian-U.S. relations to the steady development trajectory."
While British Prime Minister Theresa May said:
"Britain and the United States have an enduring and special relationship based on the values of freedom, democracy and enterprise. We are, and will remain, strong and close partners on trade, security and defense."
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said:
"As a very successful businessman with extraordinary talents, you not only made a great contribution to the growth of the U.S. economy, but now as a strong leader, you have demonstrated your determination to lead the United States."
Chinese President Xi Jinping also congratulated Trump:
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he hopes to strengthen the bond between the two countries.
"I am confident that President-elect Trump and I will continue to strengthen the unique alliance between our two countries and bring it to ever greater heights."
Former president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai sent his well wishes to Trump via Twitter.
Meanwhile the world stock markets evened out after Trump's acceptance speech overnight. When the numbers started coming in, markets had a Brexit-like response falling drastically, but then they bounced back to near where they started, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
