On Saturday, customers at a Walmart in Alabama alerted staff members to a woman who was going around the store, allegedly trying to give away a child. Customers also said the woman appeared to be intoxicated.
Police were called to the store and arrested the woman on child endangerment and drug paraphernalia possession charges.
Upon her arrest, Sabrina Thompson, 37, reportedly told officers that she was just kidding about wanting to give the child away.
The child, who was not identified by gender or age, was returned to his or her parents.
Authorities say the woman and child are related, but did not elaborate on their relationship, according to the AL.com report.
Thompson was released from jail on Monday on $2,000 bond.
