A Cincinnati woman died after she was mauled by a dog as she had a seizure.
The son of the woman ran out of the home to get help for his mom.
Medics found Della Riley, 42, inside the home being attacked by the mixed-breed dog when they arrived, WLWT reported.
The fire department called police who found Riley unresponsive when they arrived.
Police said the dog charged at them, so they shot and killed it, WLWT reported.
The Hamilton County coroner said that Riley died due to the injuries from the dog mauling. The woman had a post-mortem gunshot wound after being hit by a bullet as officers were shooting at the dog, the coroner told WLWT.
Riley and her boyfriend were the dog’s owners, according to a neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous.
A second dog was taken to the SPCA, WLWT reported.
Police said Riley's 4-year-old son was taken to Child Protective Services, WLWT reported.
