A 40-year-old woman was shot Thursday night at a Renton movie theater and a 29-year-old man was taken into custody, police said.

After 8 p.m., crews responded to reports of a shooting at a Regal Cinema.

Police said a woman was found inside the theater. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center  in critical condition. On Friday, she had been upgraded to serious condition. Friends told KIRO 7 she was shot in the shoulder and luckily, the bullet missed her major arteries

At 9:41 p.m., police said the suspect's father called 911 to report that his son was distraught and had told him he dropped his gun at the theater and it discharged.

Officers drove to a Newcastle home and confirmed the son was the suspect in the movie theater shooting. He was arrested.

Witnesses told KIRO 7 the shooter stumbled in the theater and appeared to be under the influence. According to police, the shooter was fumbling with a handgun when it went off and struck the woman in front of him.

Another witness said the shooter went into a restaurant and dropped his gun in front of the patrons. The man then picked up his gun and walked into the parking garage and got away.
