It was supposed to be a quick run to Walmart.

Instead, a Florida woman ended up in handcuffs for leaving her 5-year-old son in a hot car.

Talisha Martin was arrested around 4 p.m. Sunday by the Palatka Police Department.

After she posted her $500 bond and left the Putnam County Jail, the 27-year-old Interlachen resident took to her Facebook page, saying it was "stupid" that police arrested her for leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle.

She also took issue with officers saying that she had left her child alone for over 40 minutes, saying it was really just a few minutes.

Martin admitted in the comments section of her post that she was wrong for leaving her 5-year-old son in the car, even though that was what he wanted.

Palatka PD also took to Facebook on Monday morning, writing that Martin's son told them that he was hot and scared because his mother had left him and that her speech was slurred when officers finally found her.

Officers also noted that the car's engine and air conditioner were both running, but that the latter was blowing warm air on a day that ended with a high of 88 degrees, according to Accuweather.

The Florida Department of Children and Families has been notified and will be investigating further, according to spokesman John Harrell.

"Not only is it illegal for a child to be left in a car, it is also inhumane and potentially deadly," Harrell said. "We will do a full and thorough investigation regarding this incident."

DCF wouldn't comment on any previous history involving Martin, but Martin said on her Facebook page that DCF has investigated her before.

The boy is OK and was released to his father.
