WDBJ receives help from other stations to staff newscasts

Nearly a week after two journalists were gunned down live on air, their coworkers were able to mourn the murders without having to worrying about staffing the news desk.
Help from across the country came in for the news department at WDBJ, The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
Keith Humphry, who retired from WDBJ, and Andrew Freiden, a Richmond meteorologist who started his career as a teleprompter operator at WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia, filled in behind the anchor desk Monday so staff members could attend a memorial service for Alison Parker and a viewing for Adam Ward.
Crews from CBS National News and from the company's sister stations in Springfield, Missouri, and Wichita, Kansas, helped cover the memorial services.
"We felt it would be awfully difficult for us to cover the funerals of our friends," Kelly Zuber, WDBJ news director, told The Times-Dispatch.
Freiden said his bosses at WWBT in Richmond did not have a problem with him helping out at another station and had a co-worker fill in in for him.
Ward will be laid to rest Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Roanoke.
Parker's family will hold a private service at a later date, NBC News reported.
