SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket early Thursday on a mission to deliver the EchoStar 23 communications satellite into orbit.
But this launch was for night owls only: Its scheduled launch time was 2 a.m. EDT.

The launch was from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. According to NASA, SpaceX did not attempt to land the first stage of the Falcon rocket on this launch.
SpaceX had to scrub a Tuesday launch because of high winds.
