Here's something you don’t see every day -- a house floating on a barge down the Allegheny River.
The mysterious floating house was seen drifting down the Allegheny River and then through the Monogahela.
The journey for the house began at the Fox Chapel Yacht Club and an on-board crew worked to safely sail the house down the river, where it ended up near the South Side Flats, next to Hofbrauhaus. As it turns out, the house really isn’t a house at all. Instead, the building will be used as an office building for a new marina.
On its way across town, the floating house caused a stir on social media. Mabon Lichtenfels, the project manager of the construction site building the marina, wasn’t expecting the buzz. He was only concerned about one thing.
“We were more concerned with just getting it here safely,” he said. “So we’re just glad it arrived safely.”
Lichtenfels expects to see boats at the marina in the coming weeks.
