Plumes of black smoke filled the skies above New York University’s Langone Medical Center Wednesday after a fire broke out on the fifth floor of the complex, fire officials said.
Firefighters said they were responding to the 2-alarm blaze in Manhattan around 12:15 p.m.
No injuries were immediately reported. The fire was under control by 1 p.m.
The fire broke out in an area under construction, WPXI reported. Officials told the news station around 12:30 p.m. that the hospital was not being evacuated and the flames did not appear to be a threat to patients.
Witnesses posted videos and images of the fire, and the thick black smoke it produced, on social media.
