A man confronted a group when he caught them etching their names into a metal railing near a waterfall overlook near Bend, Oregon.
Brett Nelson was on a hiking trip to Tumalo Falls, located in a national forest 20 miles west of Bend when he happened upon a group of hikers who apparently were carving their names into a metal railing. Nelson stopped the hikers and asked them to stop, which they reportedly refused to do. Nelson's hiking companion, Lyle Sweeney, took a photo of the group, which Nelson later shared on Facebook.
In his Facebook post, which has now gone viral, Nelson described the incident:
"Unbelievable spontaneous hike. "SPOILED" By most unbelievable D*****'-B** parenting I have ever encountered. PROUD parent letting children carve names in tumalo falls hand railing. Asking, boy on the left are you seriously going to carve your name in that rail... Yup. Turning to the D******** Dad, I stated you know your letting your kids deface federal public land? How is this ok??? Daughter says Umm, we can do what we or I want. I asked to Dad give me your license plate number so I can carve my name in the hood of your car. He says go for it its a rental car. Then asking where you from... California. Then I stated - you need to go back to California, Oregonians take huge pride in our land in our public land parks and you are not welcome SHAME ON YOU!!! Nelson has been overwhelmed with interview requests and social media tips in the search for the vandals. Authorities are working on tracking down the trio in the photo and Nelson believes he has pinpointed the suspect.
