Road-striping crews in a Utah county apparently do not stop for roadkill.

A crew working on a road in Cedar Hills last week was putting a second coat on a double yellow line when it painted over what seems to be a dead raccoon, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

The photograph almost appears to be staged, but Cedar Hills Mayor Jenney Rees said it is legitimate.

"It is for real," Rees told the Tribune. "A resident shared that photo, and I drove out there to check for myself."

Rees saw it for herself -- a dead animal in the middle of the road with a double yellow stripe -- and contacted officials from Utah County, the newspaper reported.

"It's a county road," Rees told the Tribune. "So, I notified the county that they would have to come back out and touch up the striping."

Richard Nielson, director of Utah County Public Works, said the animal should have been moved.

"It's just laziness on the stripers' part that they didn't move it out of the way," Nielson told the Tribune.

All's well that ends well, however -- except, for the dead raccoon. The roadkill was moved away and the stripes were painted properly, Reese told the newspaper.
