7 tons of hummus recalled from Target, Trader Joes

The threat of a Listeria contamination forced a company to issue a voluntary recall Thursday of approximately 14,860 pounds of hummus and dip products from stores across the country including mega-chains Target and Trader Joe’s.

The Massachusetts-based  Lansal Inc.  said the recall was only as a precaution.

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
