What to know now:
1. Obama-Clinton emails: The Obama administration is trying to block the release of emails between the president and then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The emails were discovered by the State Department in the spring as part of the release of thousands of emails contained on a private server Clinton kept in her New York Home. The request not to release the emails is an effort to keep presidential communications confidential, a New York Times story reported. The content of the handful of emails has not been disclosed.
2. What's happening in Wyoming: A huge gash in the ground in central Wyoming has people talking, some about an impending earthquake or the possible eruption of a "super volcano." The crack in the earth was discovered a few weeks ago and measures 50 yards wide and some 750 yards long. According to an outfitting and guide company, "a wet spring lubricated across a cap rock. Then, a small spring on either side caused the bottom to slide out." An estimated 15 to 20 million yards of earth was displaced, leaving steep cliffs along the edge and boulders along the bottom of the opening. A state geologist says it's a slow-moving landslide.
3. Trump negotiates: According to his campaign staff, GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump will negotiate his own terms for participating in the next Republican debate. Other Republican candidates meet this past weekend to come up with a list of demands for future debates following complaints that the debate hosted by CNBC last week was unfair. Trump didn't participate in those meetings, saying he could get a better deal on his own, perhaps one where the sponsoring network donates to a charity of the candidate's choice.
4. Russian plane crash: According to U.S. intelligence sources, a heat flash was detected by a U.S. infrared satellite at the time a Russian passenger plane broke apart over the Sinai Peninsula. According to one report, the U.S. intelligence community believes the heat flash indicates an explosion occurred on the plane, causing it to crash. The Pentagon told ABC News that the heat flash could also have been recorded from some military activity in the area that had nothing to do with the plane crash.
5. Death rates up: According to a study released Monday, the death rate for middle-aged white Americans is on the rise. According to the study, it's not cancer or heart disease that are causing the numbers to tick up, but suicide, alcohol abuse and overdoses of heroin and prescription painkillers.
