The teenager who made headlines recently for creating a gun-shooting drone has been arrested, but not for his drone-hacking activities.
The Hartford Courant reports that Austin Haughwout, 18, was arrested Wednesday for assaulting two police officers. The incident took place at Clinton Police Headquarters, as Haughwout was turning himself in over an arrest warrant he faced because of an incident that took place at the local library Sunday night.
The teenager became ill after the physical confrontation with police and was taken to a local hospital.
Haughwout’s bail has been set at $12,500.
Sunday night’s incident at the library is another incident of the local police department harassing the teenager, Haughwout’s family claims. They released footage captured by the teenager during the incident, which began when police confronted Haughwout who was parked in the local library’s parking lot when the library was not opened. Haughwout claimed he was uploading schoolwork via the library’s free Wi-Fi service. He drove off and was subsequently stopped two more times by police, who eventually let him go but later issued Haughwout an arrest warrant.
Haughwout’s video of a drone outfitted with a gun that fires went viral and has generated millions of views on YouTube. Local and federal authorities are still investigating the drone incident to see if any laws were violated.
