Jackson police positively identified a teen who was photographed while standing on top of a police car at the Old Hickory Mall and charged him with vandalism, according to a report.
On Sunday night, police said they were made aware of a picture circulating social media that depicted a young black male standing on top of a police car while making an offensive gesture with his hands.
An investigation was launched, and the 17-year-old was identified, thanks to cooperation from his family, police said.
Police said the teen and his family met Chief Julian Wiser Monday morning, and the teen took responsibility for his actions.
According to a release from JPD, the chief and the teen’s parents agreed he should be held accountable for his actions, which resulted in damage to city property. The police car had dents on the hood and trunk.
The teen still faces a vandalism charge in an upcoming court appearance.
