Breaion King, the 26-year-old Austin teacher thrown to the ground by a city police officer during a traffic stop last year, said Friday she appreciates the apology by Police Chief Art Acevedo.
Acevedo apologized Thursday during a news conference.
“I appreciate it very much, and it’s a step in the right direction,” King said.
She said what happened to her “is an opportunity to make things better and to change things for the better.”
King was doing multiple local, state and national interviews Friday after the American-Statesman and KVUE-TV first aired police dash camera video showing officer Bryan Richter using force on her.
The incident happened in June 2015, but the video surfaced as part of new investigations by the Austin Police Department and the Travis County District Attorney’s office.
