Two Atlanta-area shoplifting suspects claimed it was all a misunderstanding that led to their arrest.
On Sunday afternoon, the duo was at the Von Maur store in Dunwoody, Ga., which was full of back-to-school shoppers and those wanting to take advantage of Georgia’s Tax Free Holiday.
“Tax Free Holiday?” the suspects asked, seemingly shocked, according to Dunwoody police.
They had heard something about that but must have misunderstood, the two told officers.
“We thought it was ‘Free Holiday,’” the alleged shoplifters claimed - as in, take what you want without paying for it.
Officers inside the department store caught one of the suspects in the act, according to police. The second was outside in the parking lot wearing stolen merchandise, police said. One woman was allegedly wearing stolen jeans under her sweatpants - in 90-degree weather.
The women, whose names were not released, were arrested and booked into the DeKalb County jail.
