Shooting leaves Dallas officers dead: What we know about the victims

A sniper opened fire on police officers as a peaceful protest against police violence came to a violent end in Dallas Thursday night.

By early Friday, authorities confirmed five of the 12 injured officers had died of their wounds.

The shooter has been identified as Micah Johnson, 25, according to The Associated Press.

Most of those slain were identified as officers with the Dallas Police Department. Three were officers with Dallas Area Rapid Transit, according to The Associated Press.

Two civilians were also injured, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said.
