In a shocking DNA test result, a New Jersey man believed to be the father of twin girls is only the parent of one of them.

Judge Sohail Mohammed ruled Monday in the unique paternity case, only the third in the country, that features separate fathers of twins, according to NBC New York.

Superfecundation, the successive fertilization of an egg by two men, is rare.

A DNA expert testified at the trial that different fathers of twins are reported in 1 out of 13,000 paternity cases.

The mother, "T.M." gave birth to the twin girls in January 2013. She listed the father as "A.S." when applying for child support, according to NJ.com. When she admitted she had sex with another man within a week of her encounter with A.S., social services ordered a DNA test.

A.S. was ordered to pay $28 a week in child support for one of the children.
