Two surfers were bitten by sharks at New Smyrna Beach, Florida, during the weekend, Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue said.

A 32-year-old Port Orange man, who wasn't publicly identified, was bitten on his side about 5:30 p.m. Saturday while surfing near the Flagler Avenue beach approach, Senior Capt. Andrew Ethridge said.

The man, who had minor injuries, declined medical treatment.

A 21-year-old Longwood man, who also wasn't publicly identified, was then bitten on his left foot while surfing near the New Smyrna Beach Jetty about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Ethridge said.

The man had minor lacerations on the top of his foot.

He went to Florida Hospital New Smyrna on his own for treatment.

"These bites are numbers 13 and 14 for the year," Ethridge said.

Of the three people who were bitten, one person had to undergo surgery, officials said.
