A shark bit a 25-year-old man Sunday evening as he surfed in waist-deep water at Daytona Beach, according to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue.
Shortly before 7 p.m., the man was bitten on his foot near the Daytona Inn Beach Resort, said Capt. Tamra Marris, an agency spokeswoman.
The shark, which was not seen, caused minor lacerations to the surfer's foot, Marris said.
The victim was treated at the scene and did not need to be brought to a hospital.
