The outpouring of support for the victims of the Pulse nightclub terror attack continues to grow weeks after the shooting, and now popular musicians are expressing their condolences through song.
The song "Hands" has been released by Interscope Records with support from the LGBT advocacy group GLAAD. It features the vocals of 24 different artists, including P!nk, Britney Spears, Jason Derulo, Mary J. Blige and many more.
GLAAD CEO Sarah Kate Ellis told Billboard that the song was written by Justin Tranter, co-writer of several hit songs for artists including Justin Bieber's "Sorry." "Hands" was co-produced by Grammy winner Mark Ronson, who produced "Uptown Funk."
"When you hear the song, it talks about hate being the driver here," Ellis told Billboard. "That's important because we have to be able to identify what's driving these cruel acts in order to stop them. Artists using their platforms to accelerate acceptance is very powerful."
The song opens with Spears singing, "Can hold a gun, and hold your heart. Can put out fires, and make 'em start."
The song is available on iTunes. All of the proceeds from the sale of the song will benefit the Equality Florida Victims Fund and other charities.
