The Seattle Police Department has a new K-9, but he won’t be sniffing out drugs or chasing down suspects.
Bear, a black labrador retriever, was hired to sniff out electronics. He is one of only three working dogs in the United States trained to detect electronics.
His unique skills were called upon earlier this year, during a child pornography investigation at the home of former Subway pitchman, Jared Fogle.
“He can sniff out SD cards, thumb drives, external hard-drives, iPads, micro SD cards,” said handler Todd Jordan.
Bear is trained to sniff out a chemical that's emitted from memory storage devices such as SD cards.
A room that would take investigators hours to search can be cleared by Bear in 10 minutes.
Bear will work with Seattle police detectives on child pornography cases.
