A senior class in McAlisterville, Pennsylvania, had two graduations.
Just days before the original graduation, senior Scott Dunn was heading to a track meet when he got into a car crash. Doctors put him into a medically induced coma in order to save his life. He missed his graduation.
When he woke up, Dunn’s first realization was that he had missed his big day.
"I remember waking up in the hospital and asking my mom what day it was," Dunn told WHTM. "She told me it was the 28th. First thing I said, I looked at her and said, 'I missed my graduation.'"
"Couple days later, Mr. Fausey, (the school's principal) called us and said to us that everybody wanted to do something special for him," Scott's mom, Karen, said.
"There's only one high school graduation that people get," Benjamin Fausey said. "To me, this is the least that we can do."
Last week, more than half of Dunn's class gathered back at East Juniata High School and donned their caps and gowns, but this time only Dunn's name was called. When he walked across the stage, the audience erupted with applause.
"It wasn't really a hard decision to make if I was going to come or not," graduate Hannah Scholl said.
"As soon as they said they were having this graduation, I was immediately going to come. Because it's Scott. He's my friend," said Clayton Willow, another student.
"I'm speechless," Dunn said. "I don't know how to even explain it. I'm speechless to know that this many people are behind me."
