Five-year-old Elizabeth likes to color and draw. But last week, when she drew a picture of a firearm and pointed her crayon like a gun, her school took action.
"They told me she drew something that resembled a gun," Elizabeth's mother Rebecca told WMPI-TV. "According to them she pointed a crayon at another student and said, 'pew, pew.' "
Afterward, the school checked Elizabeth for suicidal thoughts and the child was asked to sign a contract stating she would not kill herself or others.
"This isn't right," Rebecca told WMPI. “She's 5 years old. Most of these words on here she's never heard in her life."
"My child interrupted us and said, 'What is suicide, mommy? Daddy, what is suicide?" Rebecca told the station. "As a parent that's not right."
AL.com reports one problem is, state law states it's illegal for minors to sign contracts.
The Mobile County school system says they have “stepped back” and will re-evaluate the situation.
