Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump sat in the hot seat after a vulgar conversation from 2005 surfaced again.
On Sunday, Trump surrogate and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani spoke about the controversy with humility.
Sitting down on ABC’s “This Week,” George Stephanopoulos explained to Giuliani that Trump was describing sexual assault in the recording.
Giuliani agreed, saying “That’s what he’s talking about.” He said that he was unaware whether an incident had occurred and how much of Trump’s statement was an exaggeration. But he did have a suggested course of action for the nominee, saying, “I’m not in any way trying to excuse it or condone it. There is no excuse or answer for it other than ‘I’m very sorry. I wish I hadn’t done it. And I’m not like that anymore.'”

Trump has since released an apology regarding his comments.

Regardless, several Republican politicians have either retracted their endorsements, called for Trump to drop out, or have refused to defend his comments (including his own vice presidential pick).
