A roller coaster that replaced an attraction on the New Jersey boardwalk that fell into the ocean during Superstorm Sandy stranded riders Wednesday just months after opening.
Eight passengers were safely removed from the Hydrus ride around 5 p.m. at the Seaside Heights Boardwalk after a car got stuck vertically, according to the New Jersey Star-Ledger.
"Safety is the top priority of the amusement park and attractions industry," Maria Mastoris, a spokeswoman for the Casino Pier, said in a statement.
The Hydrus, a green and bright blue coaster, has a 72-foot vertical drop and reaches speeds up to 45 mph. It opened in May and replaced the JetStar, which was knocked into the ocean during Superstorm Sandy.
