He's been crowned "the king of revenge porn" and "the most hated man on the internet." Now, Hunter Moore might be called "federal inmate."
Time broke the news that Moore was arrested and indicted on 15 federal charges Thursday relating to the explicit website he ran prior to early 2012 called "Is Anyone Up?" Moore described it as a place to embarrass your ex.
As vindictive as that sounds, though, the site went even further. The photos were labeled with the subjects' full names, locations and even social media profiles. The site posted as many as two dozen photos a day.
But wait. Turns out, many of those photos could have been stolen from people's email accounts, not sent in by former flings, something Moore admitted was illegal in an email in 2011, according to New York Daily News.
Which makes things pretty sticky for Moore. who, according to The Huffington Post, was able to "[maintain] immunity as users sign a contract assuming legal consequences for their submissions."
Enter Charles Evens, aka "Gary Jones," a hacker who, according to a 2012 Village Voice report, may have been hired by Moore to do his dirty work. Moore reportedly paid Evens $200 to $900 a week to steal photos from people's emails.
If true, that would make it a bit harder for Moore to claim innocence — which he has every time someone attacked him for posting their private photos.
Moore said, "I don't know how you can point your finger at me. You took the picture. ... It's 2012, what do you expect to happen? Someone is going to monetize this, I mean, and I was the person to do it." (Via CNN)
Moore is set to appear before federal court Tuesday while Evens appears before a U.S. district court.
