A charter boat captain named Erik Rue first spotted the dolphin nicknamed "Pinky" while out fishing on his boat in Louisiana, according to a Facebook post from the National Wildlife Association.
Rue said, when he first encountered Pinky eight years ago, she’d always hang by her mother. Now she swims on her own and with other dolphins. He believes she’s one of the few dolphins with that kind of pigmentation.
“We still see her swimming almost every day in the summertime. We’ve seen her a lot in the last few weeks. She looks happy and healthy,” Rue was quoted as saying in the post.
According to Dolphinspedia.com, pink dolphins are pink because their skin is thin, enabling you to see the blood vessels beneath their skin.
Rue said he believes he’s seen Pinky mating, which means she could be expecting. If that’s true, and she’s pregnant, what color will her calves be?
