A pregnant woman is recovering after a serious crash in North Carolina split her car into two pieces Tuesday afternoon.
According to state troopers, 20-year-old Haley Smith was driving her Honda Accord north on Highway 321 when she ran off the road to the right and overcorrected back onto the median. The car then went airborne before landing in the southbound lanes where it was hit by an SUV and split in half.
Pictures from the fire department's Facebook page show the front end of the car separated from the back end. Nobody in the SUV was hurt.
EMS crews on scene said Smith was unconscious when they arrived and rushed her to the hospital. She is recovering and officials said she did not receive serious injuries and there were no complications with the pregnancy.
Troopers said they estimated Smith was driving roughly 100 mph when she crashed. She was charged with reckless driving, drug paraphernalia and having unsafe tires.
