If you are not using the StarShower holiday lights display at your own home, you may have seen it at a friend's house on Facebook. Or you've seen the ads on television or online.

Unfortunately, sometimes pilots can see them, too -- from the cockpit, where the laser lights from the display can be as debilitating as a laser beam intentionally pointed toward a plane. A laser beam can momentarily blind a pilot, with no warning.
In an investigation into the potential threat to pilots, the company that makes Star Shower said the product is compliant with federal regulations governing lasers, but they also said consumers should take care to point the lights at their home and never into the sky.
"Laser strikes go up every holiday season, because people get the little pen lights as gifts," a police official told NBCLosAngeles.com.
