A man was beaten and robbed as he walked to a convenience store from the Days Inn on International Drive early Tuesday morning, Orlando police said.
According to a police report, Andrew Vasquez was walking to a nearby 7-Eleven when he was hit on the back of his head with a blunt object.
Vasquez said when he fell, he saw two men standing over him. The men said "Give me your (expletive)" and proceeded to beat Vasquez, who tried to fight back.
The report said that the men stole his iPhone 6, which was worth about $600. Police said a car was nearby and the driver yelled, "Let's go!" and drove to the La Quinta Inn parking lot with the other two men following on foot.
Vasquez said he ran to the Days Inn and asked the night shift manager to call 911, but the employee said no and that it was "not her problem."
Because of that, police said there was a 10-minute delay between the end of the attack and the initial call for 911.
Police said the shift manager told police that it was the motel's policy not to allow guests to call 911 from the lobby and that the policy was imposed by her supervisor.
Vasquez was treated at the scene and declined to be taken to a hospital.
