A Florida man was arrested last week after police said he was stumbling around and told officers he couldn’t get a cab because his wife had his wallet, whom he reportedly waved off when she drunkenly drove by to pick him up.

Michael Robert Berube, 52, and a woman were spotted stumbling down the road in downtown Mount Dora on Aug. 17 at around 11 p.m., the Daily Commercial reports. A pedestrian noticed the couple, helped them up, and stayed with Berube as police arrived.

Police said officers allowed Berube to sit down and call his wife to come get him, and as she drove up, he texted her to keep going as he knew she was also under the influence. He told officers his wife had his wallet, which is why he couldn’t hail a cab, so they said he should call someone else.

Berube was arrested after officers said they waited for 40 minutes with no luck and he was unable to answer the “simple questions” they were asking. He was charged with disorderly intoxication.
