An Iowa Taco Bell had to shut its doors, not for lack of food but because police said they found remnants of a methamphetamine lab at the fast-food restaurant.
Police said they came upon two men outside the business when it was closed. One said he was an employee. Police went into the restaurant and said they found the remnants of the meth lab in a utility area, KWWL reported.
The two men were arrested and Taco Bell did confirm that one of the pair was an employee and has been fired.
The restaurant will be sanitized before it reopens, KWWL reported.
Taco Bell Corp. released the following statement regarding the incident.
"We understand that two people, one an employee, entered our franchisee's restaurant illegally, allegedly possessing suspicious items. Both we and our franchisee find this completely unacceptable. Our franchisee has been cooperating with Cedar Rapids Police to investigate this isolated incident. Although the suspicious items found in the restaurant were not used in the kitchen, the employee has been terminated and our franchisee is considering pressing criminal charges. The restaurant will reopen after it has been sanitized inspected by the Health Department." – Taco Bell Corp.
